Sriwijaya Festival 2024 Presents Spanish and Mexican Arts

KBRN, Palembang: The performance of two typical Spanish dances presented by Compania Flamenca Victor Rojas and two dances from Mexico from the Sima Ballet team amazed the audience at the Opening Ceremony of the Sriwijaya Festival 2024. Thousands of spectators were amazed by the rhythm and dance that were rarely witnessed live in the city of Palembang, Friday (6/21/2024)

The first dance from the Spanish delegation was danced by senior dancers who were so graceful and energetic. There were five dancers wearing colorful scarves and black dress costumes, swaying gracefully playing their scarves and graceful movements.

Meanwhile, the second dance from the Spanish delegation with flamenco movements which are famous for their rhythmic pattern movements that come from the stomping of the dancers’ feet, such as the heels, toes, and the entire soles of the feet. This time it was danced by five female dancers and two male dancers. The male dance movements also look like the Matador movements with a red cloth that is waved as if to ward off the bull’s movements in the Spanish Matador culture.

Meanwhile, from the presentation of the Mexican State arts team which displays a dance of young men and women with repeated rotating movements but with the beauty presented. Mexican dance with ballet characteristics taken from classical stories or fairy tales from Mexico. The dance is presented with foot movements following the rhythm of the music, spinning dance and stomping heels and feet in tune with typical Mexican music.

The arrival of the Spanish and Mexican arts team delegations at the invitation of the South Sumatra Provincial Government. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Tourism Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno. Sandiaga Uno, who was accompanied by the Acting Governor of South Sumatra, Agus Fatoni, directly opened the 32nd Sriwijaya Festival event in 2024 at the Monpera yard, this activity will take place from 21-23 June 2024.

“Hopefully the Sriwijaya Festival which is routinely held every year and has become the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN), can be the best and increase the arrival of tourists both nationally and internationally, by presenting two art teams from foreign countries that can add value to the economy in the tourism sector,” explained Sandiaga in his speech.

Previously, the delegates of the art teams from the two countries had been invited to tour the city of Palembang. They were treated to typical South Sumatran food, taught the history of Sriwijaya by coming directly to several historical sites, planting greenery in several locations, and touring the city of Palembang.

“Very entertaining because I can see cultural displays from various regions and abroad, especially since it is held for free, so everyone can see it directly,” said Yuni, a student from Muara Enim who came specifically to see this annual event.
